Annual General Meeting of the Yukon Canoe and Kayak Club
time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
date: Thursday, May 18, 2006
location: Board Room in the River View Hotel, corner of Wood Street and First Avenue
The business part of the meeting will occur from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., DON GRAHAM, the founder of the club back in 1961 (yes, that’s 45 years ago this club was started!), will talk about the early years of the club.
All Yukon Canoe and Kayak Club members are welcome to the business part of the meeting. YCKC memberships for 2006/07 will be on sale at the door. (All 2005/06 YCKC memberships expired March 31, 2006).
Anyone interested is welcome to the talk by Don Graham at 8:30 p.m.
The tentative meeting agenda is as follows:
- youth program
- CREW program
- kayaking
- canoeing
- flatwater racing (could someone involved in this provide a report at the meeting, since there is no board member for flatwater paddling at the moment?)
- Rock the River
- communications
YCKC actively promotes the sport of canoeing and kayaking in the Yukon. Not only does the club organize events like the annual Whitehorse Whitewater Rodeo, it also has a youth kayaking program and is in the process of establishing an urban whitewater recreational park (along with the Yukon Energy Corporation, City of Whitehorse and other organizations).
The club’s mandate is to promote the sport of paddling and the executive will do their best to bring programs that will be for both adults and youths, from beginners to experienced veterans.
There are many reasons to be a club member:
